On December 1st the Town of Mendon and Village of Honeoye Falls, along with the Chabad of Pittsford celebrated the first annual (community) Menorah lighting in Honeoye Falls & Mendon.

Rabbi Yitzi Hein of the Chabad of Pittsford first contacted Mendon Town Supervisor John Moffitt about the event. As active partners in government, Supervisor Moffitt contacted Village of Honeoye Falls Mayor Rick Milne to set up a meeting with the Rabbi. Upon meeting, the Village community was walked and with a desire to be overlooking the falls area, Totem Pole Park was chosen as the agreed upon location for this celebration.

The Village DPW Team worked with representatives from the Chabad of Pittsford and installed the Menorah. This runs on electric and has a timer that turned on each light on the appropriate day.
The celebration was very well attended, and people gathered and sang Chanukah/Hannukah songs and told the story of the meaning of the Menorah (led by Rabbi Yitzi Hein). Refreshments and traditional foods were provided by the Chabad of Pittsford.

Mayor Milne and Supervisor Moffitt thank the residents for the great support of this (new) celebration in our community. “We appreciate the opportunity to add this celebration to our traditional holiday celebrations both religious and commercial or non-denominational moving forward,” they said.
