Lindsay Agness, a resident of Honeoye Falls, was inducted into the New York State Outdoorsman Hall of Fame during a ceremony on April 30, 2022. She joins nearly 300 men and women Hall of Fame honorees, installed since 1982. Among other HOF members are Joan Wulff and President Theodore Roosevelt.

She is member of the Trout Unlimited Seth Green Chapter and services on the board of the New York State Council of Trout Unlimited Executive Committee.

For over 20 years, Agness has unselfishly given her time as a volunteer to help others, many through not-for-profit organizations. Here is a just a sampling:

In 2007, she started and continues to conduct the Trout Unlimited Women’s Fly Fishing classes, a successful program to introduce women to fly fishing. She has taught over 350 women how to fly fish across NYS.

Since 2011, Agness has been a volunteer for Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing (PHWFF). This nonprofit is dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active military service personnel and veterans through fly fishing and associated activities including education and outings. In addition, as volunteers, since 2010, Agness and her husband Dave have conducted a fly fishing school for wounded veterans called CompeerCORPS/OASIS Adaptive Sports in the Rochester, NY area.

Since April 2015, she has been actively involved with the startup of the Upstate NY Casting for Recovery. Casting for Recovery (CfR) is a nonprofit organization that enhances the quality of life for women with breast cancer through a unique retreat program that combines breast cancer education and peer support with the therapeutic sport of fly fishing.

She also has received many other awards for her many accomplishments in giving back in the world of fly fishing here in NYS.

Larry Charette, Chair of The New York State Council said, “I could think of few people who deserved this award as much as Lindsay.”

Agness was recently named a trail blazer in the latest issue of Wideopenspaces’ article “8 Mamas Making A Positive Change In The Outdoors” by Megan Plete Postol. The article was published on April 12th, 2022 and can be viewed at https://www.wideopenspaces.com/category/women-of-the-wilderness/trail-blazers.
