ICU nurse Anastasia “Asia” Fedele recently received the DAISY Award for Nursing Excellence from UR Medicine Thompson Health.

Fedele, who lives in Honeoye Falls, was at work for the surprise award presentation. It was attended by Diane Sprague of Victor, who nominated her.

Sprague’s husband was admitted to the ICU on May 26 of this year, passing away seven days later. Sprague wrote in her nomination that Fedele was compassionate, hardworking, and always positive during that week, and felt like part of the family. Fedele even attended Scott Sprague’s calling hours, “which brought so much comfort to me and the family,” Sprague said, adding, “She is an incredible person!”

During the Oct. 15 award presentation, Fedele received a certificate, a pin, and a hand-carved sculpture called A Healer’s Touch. As a DAISY recipient, she is also eligible for scholarships, discounts on certifications, and medical mission grants from The DAISY Foundation.

Thompson’s quarterly DAISY award is part of a nationwide nurse recognition program. To nominate a nurse to be the next recipient, visit www.ThompsonHealth.com/DAISY.
