People may remember the old public service announcements on television back in the 1970s from the organization Reading is Fundamental that repeated that phrase. Lima Primary School students learned that reading can also include lots of fun during Read Across America Week in March.

The kindergarten and first-grade students celebrated Read Across America week March 2-6 through themed days (such as Super Heroes), special activities and reading a lot of great books. The school’s hallways were decorated for the week.

Established by the National Education Association, Read Across America week began on March 2, the birthday of author Dr. Seuss. The week is about inspiring a love of books, encouraging literacy and building a community of lifelong readers. The theme for Read Across America was Create and Celebrate a Nation of Diverse Readers.
