Honeoye Falls resident Robert Hobday has been elected director of the Antique Wireless Association (AWA) and its Antique Wireless Museum in Bloomfield, and Bruce Roloson of Apalachin, NY has been elected deputy director. They were elected to their new positions at a special Antique Wireless Association (AWA) board of trustees meeting Saturday, September 8. The meeting was held to fill the position left vacant by former director Thomas Pearson, Jr’s. retirement.
Hobday had been deputy director of the museum since 2009 and Roloson was the museum’s Curator Emeritus. Hobday has been a member of AWA since 1984. Roloson, a member since 1967, has held many AWA offices, including president. Both are retired from electric utilities – Hobday from Rochester Gas & Electric, Roloson from New York State Electric & Gas.
The museum, established in 1952, is located at 6925 Route 5 in Bloomfield, New York 14469, just east of the Route 444 intersection. It is open to the public Tuesdays 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM and Saturdays 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Visitors can drop in on the radio operator aboard the Titanic (before it sank), sit at the massive Voice of America control board, see the evolution of the cell phone and much, much more. Admission is $7 for adults; children and teens are always free.
