The HF-L Education Fund was pleased and honored in the Fall of 2015 to receive grant scholarship money from the Meisenzahl family. Chuck “Coach” Meisenzahl was a legend on the HF-L campus. He was the starter and innovator behind our home and careers curriculum. Coach was also the individual who began HF-L soccer and what we currently know as HF-L Community Programs. Most importantly, his family remembers how passionate he was about the learning environment for our students. Whether it was in the classroom, in PE or an extracurricular activity he believed all children should have a chance to participate and succeed. His professional goal was to offer activities and experiences that would give each student a taste of their own excellence.
It is in this vein that the Education Fund chose two grant recipients to receive the money donated by the Meisenzahl family. Kevin O’Connell will receive a new, large screen for the Lima Primary gym. This equipment will be used with a projector to promote the elementary curriculum and ensure that every child, even those who are visual learners, will be able to participate and fully engage in their physical activity during gym time. The second Meisenzahl grant has been awarded to Renée Davis. She will purchase functional weights that will be used in gym to teach our middle school and high school students how to more effectively use their time in the weight room. Access to functional bars will aid the PE teachers with discussion on how important physical conditioning is in general and how appropriate weight training can improve performance on and off the field. These resources will be available to our students in the Fall of 2016.
The HF-L Education Fund was created in December 2011 to promote creative and diverse academic opportunities for HF-L students through grants to teachers and staff. Beginning in the spring of 2012, the HF-L Education Fund has provided more than $11,000 in grant awards to support innovative educational initiatives that go above and beyond our school district’s requirements, bridging the gap between a great education and an exceptional one.
HF-L Education Fund is a component fund of the Rochester Area Community Foundation and all donations are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law.
