Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education has come to the forefront in recent years due to the increasing demand for jobs in these areas. In order to recognize exemplary programs being offered in our schools, the Finger Lakes STEM Hub is presenting awards to educators in the Finger Lakes region who have made STEM education a priority.

Lima Primary was one of several schools which received this award last week. Wheatland-Chili was also recognized with an award.

The awards showcase the excellent programs that already exist in the Finger Lakes STEM Hub nine-county area, including the counties of Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Orleans, Seneca, Wayne, Wyoming and Yates. These programs can be used as models and inspiration for others to incorporate STEM at any grade level and in many ways.

To be considered for an award, applicants submitted a summary of their program, including information on how it met one or more of the nine STEM Learning Categories as identified in the NYS STEM Quality Learning Rubric. Applications were then reviewed by a panel of experts who are part of the Finger Lakes STEM Hub.

Programs receiving the STEM Program Recognition Award were honored at a luncheon at the Science Exploration Days being held at St. John Fisher College on Fri., May 13. Recognized programs will also be featured on the Finger Lakes STEM Hub website and in the newsletter.

A full list of recipients is posted to the website.

The Finger Lakes STEM Hub is a catalyst for collaboration among business, education, community organizations, government entities and passionate individuals leveraging diverse resources together to advance the interdisciplinary teaching and learning of STEM disciplines for sustained economic vitality in our nine- county Finger Lakes region.
