Emily Motyka, 19, of Lima, New York, is among seven suspects charged with second-degree murder in the death of Sam Nordquist.
At a press conference Friday, Feberuary 14, Capt. Kelly Swift, a New York State Police investigator, said, “In my 20-year law enforcement career, this is one of the most horrific crimes I have ever investigated,. My thoughts are with Sam’s family during this time.”
Nordquist’s body was discovered in Yates County, but the crimes occurred in Ontario County, according to police investigators.
According to the Ontario County District Attorney and investigators, they currently do not believe this was a hate crime, citing the relationship between the suspects and Nordquist. Nortdquist and those suspected in his death were known to each other, and all identified as LGBTQ+, authorities said. Motyka was a 2023 graduate of HF-L High School.
