The Stars and Stripes 5K VeteRun Committee is pleased to report that this past Veterans Day, we had our largest turnout, ever! More than 350 runners laced up their sneakers and ran the beautiful 5K course through Mendon Ponds Park.

We are thankful for our runners and the generous race sponsors who helped us raise more than $11,000 for Honor Flight Rochester in 2016. Over the past six years, the Stars and Stripes 5K VeteRun has donated more than $70,000 to Honor Flight Rochester. This year, we were able to distribute an additional $3,500 to local veterans groups and organizations that provide services to veterans in Honeoye Falls/Mendon/Lima.

A race that came about as an idea among local families that we ought to do more to honor veterans, has grown into a way for our entire community to come together, honor our veterans, race/jog/walk, and do good. Whether you’ve joined us as racers, volunteers, sponsors, or spectators, the Stars and Stripes 5K VeteRun committee has been deeply moved by the generous spirit and dedication to purpose that this race has engendered.

Looking to the future, the Stars and Stripes 5K VeteRun will be run under the auspices of YellowJacket Racing (http://yellowjacketracing.com/). Fleet Feet and YellowJacket Racing will work with members of the original Stars and Stripes 5K VeteRun committee to ensure that the race continues to honor veterans, raises money for Honor Flight Rochester and other veterans groups, and gives folks of all abilities a chance to get out, have fun, and do good on this important day.

Save the date for the 7th Annual Stars and Stripes 5K VeteRun to be held Friday, November 10, 2017.
