Mackenzie Dohr took home her first Primetime Emmy at last Monday’s awards show which aired live on NBC. Mackenzie won “Outstanding Comedy Series” for her role as co-executive producer on Widow’s Bay. She also served as a writer on the show, writing episode 4 of the series, “Beach Reads.” The show took home 14 Emmys in total, including Lead Actor, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, Guest Actor and Guest Actress (all in the Comedy Series category), as well as Best Director of a Comedy Series and Best Writing for a Comedy Series.
“At its core, Widow’s Bay is about the community of a small town. I drew a lot of inspiration from growing up in my own version of that. Although HF is not as haunted as WB (we hope), it is just as special. I dedicate my Emmy to my family, who have always supported me, and to the people of Honeoye Falls, the best small town in the world.” says Mackenzie.
The series is set in the fictional New England island town of “Widow’s Bay,” which happens to be afflicted with a centuries-old curse that brings various supernatural evils upon the island. The mayor of the town (Matthew Rhys) resolves to turn it into the next tourist hot spot, despite the warnings from locals of its curse. All 10 episodes are now streaming on AppleTV.
Mackenzie has written on many other shows including WandaVision (now streaming on Disney+), Locke & Key (now streaming on Netflix), The Mindy Project (now streaming on Hulu/Disney+) and Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies. She is currently writing on the upcoming series Life is Strange for Prime Video.
