The accolades just keep piling up for Honeoye Falls-Lima senior wrestler Anthony Noto.
Noto will receive the Robert Feldmeier Award as the Outstanding Wrestler in New York State for 2019-2020 from the Upstate New York Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. Noto, who will share the honor with Greg Diakomihalis from Hilton, will be honored at the Annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Syracuse on September 20, 2020.
“I am very honored to receive it,” said Noto during a phone interview earlier this week. “All my hard work paid off. I am very surprised I am receiving this. I thought Greg would be the only one to receive it since he has won five state titles in his career while I won four. It’s nice that both of us will share the award though since we train together and have pushed each other to be our best.”
Noto wrestled at the 120 weight class this past winter. He went 41-1 with his only loss in the finals at Eastern States. He won seven tournaments and collected six Most Outstanding Wrestler Awards this year. Following his fourth state title, he earned the Most Outstanding Wrestler for Division 2 at the state championship for the second straight year. Noto also was named the All-Greater Rochester Wrestler of the Year for Division 2 (smaller schools) for the third consecutive year. A High School All-American, he posted an astounding career record of 174-6.
“Being named AGR Wrestler of the Year for three straight seasons is quite an honor,” said Noto, who will be heading to North Carolina State next fall.
Noto is also giving back to the community’s youth wrestling program that helped him on his journey thus far. He helps out the youth program through giving clinics and coaching youth wrestlers at tournaments, giving them tips and showing them new moves.
“It makes me feel good,” Noto stated. “The younger kids look up to me and I like giving back to them and helping them out. I hope my accomplishments have blazed a trail and will inspire others to follow a similar path through their hard work.”
