At the June meeting of the members of the Honeoye Falls-Mendon Volunteer Ambulance (HFMVA), Lauren Wolck of Project Breathe, a not-for-profit division of Invisible Fence® Brand of Upstate New York presented HFMVA with five donated pet oxygen masks for use by ambulance crews. Project Breathe has donated over 9,500 oxygen masks to ambulance and fire departments across the USA to reduce the injury and death rates in pets due to house fires. Smoke inhalation is the number one cause of pet deaths in house fires and the availability of oxygen masks at fires is intended to reduce the death rate in pets, which is estimated to be 100,000 pets annually. HFMVA volunteers handed out free door and window decals to residents at the recent Festival on the Green held in Honeoye Falls and will continue to provide decals at future public events in HFMVA’s district. The decals notify ambulance and fire department volunteers that pets are located on the premise and may need help along with their owners.
