With 400 athletes traveling from several states competing the last two years, The Catalyst Games has set itself apart as the biggest crossfit competition in the Rochester area. As always, organizers look for ways to keep this competition fresh and fun, and to improve it this year…here’s what they have for you on August 13, 2016.

Although it is great to be out in the sunshine it is just too unpredictable. Nazareth College has been an amazing host the last two years, but they are taking the competition indoors this year at Pinnacle Athletic Campus on Phillips Road, in Victor.

This Crossfit event was started about six months after the death of HF-L graduate Kade O’Brien, a former Marine, in a motorcycle accident in 2011 by two Marines O’Brien’s family had never met (one of them, Tom Tartaglia, had met Kade out on their bikes), who heard of the accident and wanted to ‘do something because he did something’. The first year Chad Curtis, who owns the local Irondequoit Crossfit, held it at their old location in the back parking lot, and it drew just about 125 people. Jeremy Bagley, a friend of the O’Briens and then-Military Advisor at Nazareth College, attended as a spectator and Naz offered their facilities for the past two years. Last year, it drew 350 participants. This year, organizers have over 400 signed up.

Along with big cash prizes – the RX division will have a total of $7,000.00 to award this year – organizers are also responding to a lot of feedback and offering a team event: this will be a 4-person team event with 2 males and 2 females per team. Although organizers have met their signup goals for this year with over 400 athletes participating, they would welcome a few more teams – pull together and sign up NOW.
