The Ska-Hase-Ga-O Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) chapter from Lima, NY recently celebrated its 115th anniversary. In honor of this honorable milestone, the chapter hosted a very special event attended by distinguished guests, Ska-Hase-Ga-O chapter members and their families as well as visitors from other DAR chapters.
Attendees were treated to an exceptional concert performed by the Sterling Brass Band who performed music from the period of the early 1900’s, when the Ska-Hase-Ga-O chapter was first founded. The band also performed two very special pieces composed specifically for the concert derived from authentic Daughter of the American Revolution marches. In addition to the musical concert, visitors also enjoyed a historic display of the Ska-Hase-Ga-O chapter throughout the years, a book display commemorating woman in the military in honor of four-chapter members who actively served our country and a special presentation to the Lima Public Library. The Ska-Hase-Ga-O chapter gifted to the Lima Public Library, a copy of the historic memoirs of Revolutionary War Solider Ichabod Perry, which the chapter published in 1915. Since its publication, Mr. Perry’s memoirs have since been referenced in four different pieces of literature and a copy is also archived with the Library of Congress in Washington, DC.
The DAR is a lineage-based membership service organization for women who are directly descended from both men and women who aided in the cause of the American Revolution, known as Patriots. Any woman 18 years of age, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal decent from patriots of the American Revolution is eligible for membership.
