An astonishing feat marked the 20th Trophy Cup Runs event on Fall Weekend. Alia Spaker’s 4 minute 55 second time in the girls 11 & 12 year old race was the best ever, boy or girl, in 20 years of racing on the 1,511 yard long course.

Spaker’s startling run smashed the girls course record of 5:36 set twelve years ago by Katie Dykes – a stunning 41 second reduction. That translates into a winning margin, over the Dykes record, of about 180 yards at the 5:43.5 per mile pace which Spaker ran. More astounding still, Spaker was 4 seconds under the boy’s course record of 4:59, set just last year by Joshua Vogt. He was the first ever to break five minutes on the course. Spaker now joins him as the only two ever to run sub five minutes.

Alia Spaker loves to run. She has raced in a number of 5k road races and trail runs over the past several years and currently does about five training runs per week. At the Trophy Cup Runs the previous two years, she set successive course records in winning the girls age 9&10 race ‒ 5:31 last year and 5:43 two years back.

In other races at this year’s event, two additional course records were broken. At age 6, Brooklyn Masters ducked under the previous course record by one second with a 1:33 time for her age group. Linden Bellizzo, age 7, ran a course record 3:14 for that age-group race. He broke Adam Witkowski’s eleven year old record of 3:23 set way back in 2007. A close second to Linden, was Grady Goodberlet. His 3:17 time also broke the previous record.

Other race winners were Breck Masters, age 5, Jackson Coon, age 8, Reese Dussett in the 9&10 girls race and Jack Martin, who ran an outstanding 5:06 time to win among 11 & 12 boys. There were a total of 97 finishers among all age groups at the event this year.
