melissa-jacobs-colorIn recognizing all that the library means to the community, Board of Trustees President, Bruce Peckham, offered special thanks to dedicated library supporter, Melissa Jacobs (pictured at left).

Jacobs, a resident of Mendon, served on the Heart of Our Town Capital Campaign Committee since its inception and, along with her husband, Chris Jacobs, has been one of the library’s most generous supporters. In 2011, she accepted a position on the Mendon Public Library Board of Trustees. She has served in that position through this fall. Her constant backing and willingness to get the job done, served the library well.

“Without Melissa’s support, we would not be where we are today,” said Ron Knight, Chair of the Heart of our Town Capital Campaign. “Melissa has spearheaded community carnivals, garden tours, sweepstakes, receptions, and a variety of other endeavors to make sure our community knew about the needs of our library. Because of her actions and the work of other volunteers as well, we’re able to enjoy the beautiful new library we have today.”

At any given time, a five- to eleven-member Board of Trustees governs the Mendon Public Library. The trustees are responsible for establishing written policies to govern and guide all aspects of library service. This includes future planning for the library, financial accountability, setting policies, and hiring a director for the Mendon Public Library.

Those interested in serving on the Board of Trustees are encouraged to contact Laurie Guenther, Mendon Public Library Director, 585-624-6067 or laurie.guenther@libraryweb.org..
