Mendon’s local land steward, The Mendon Foundation, is asking the public for support again this year for the care of nearly 16 miles of our Lehigh Valley Trail and more than 175 protected acres in our community that will remain forever wild. Your contribution can make a difference and help the Mendon Foundation maintain these protected properties as well as support exciting ongoing and new projects including:
- Creation of a new college scholarship recognizing outstanding leadership in Outdoor Education & Stewardship.
New signs in Rochester Junction to tell its important historical story.
Repurposing the old 1907 flatcar that sits in Rochester Junction into a handicap accessible performance stage to host live entertainment events.
Continuing our collaboration with local scouting organizations to enhance the Lehigh Valley Trail and open spaces including the trails on the 44-acre Sibleyville property.
Helping repurpose the retired Lehigh Valley Railroad boxcar that sits in Rochester Junction into a family friendly museum.
Annual care of the giant old oak by arborist Dr. Daniel Marion on the corner of Plains Road & Route 15A.
Supporting activities on the Lehigh Valley Trail including bird walks and the annual Thanksgiving Turkey Trot.
As a donation incentive for 2016, the Mendon Foundation will hold a drawing for a beautiful, handmade quilt by local artist Sandi Shusda. It measures 58 inches by 94 inches, and the stars are made from neckties. The backside is dark green and includes a corner patch memorializing it as the 2016 Mendon Foundation Quilt. Its on display at the Mendon branch of Canandaigua National Bank.
The quilt drawing is open to any renewing donor who increases their giving by $25, or any new donor giving $25 or higher. We will record your entry based on the name, address and telephone number that accompanies your donation. We will record an entry for each $25 increase, so for example a $50 increase or $50 new donor will receive two entries. The quilt drawing will be held at the end of the day on Tuesday, January 31, allowing you to time your tax deduction for 2016 or 2017.
If you share our values and enjoy being outdoors to walk, bike, ski, snowshoe or run please begin or continue your financial support by making a contribution today so together we can continue to invest in these valuable community resources. Double your gift by sending us your employer’s matching gift form. All contributions to the Mendon Foundation are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
