The Mendon Republican Committee is proud to announce its endorsed candidates for the November election. Town Supervisor John Moffitt will again lead the all-incumbent ticket with Town Council Members Cynthia Carroll and John Hagreen seeking re-election to the Town Board. Town Justice Cara Briggs will also seek re-election in addition to Town Clerk James Merzke and Highway Superintendent William (Bud) Smith.
“I am thrilled to be running for re-election alongside an outstanding group of public servants who are truly dedicated to promoting and preserving the values that make Mendon a great place to live and raise a family,” said Mendon Town Supervisor John Moffitt. “Together, we will continue to provide vital quality of life services while remaining committed to keeping our property taxes among the lowest in Monroe County. With continued support from our friends, neighbors and fellow residents, our team will work hard to ensure the Town of Mendon remains a hometown destination for all.”
Already serving the Town of Mendon as Town Supervisor since 2010, John Moffitt will be running for re-election. John is the Past-President of HFL-Mendon Youth Baseball and was recently inducted into the HF-L Alumni Hall of Fame. He is a lifelong resident of the Town of Mendon and his family owns and operates two small businesses in Honeoye Falls.
Cynthia Carroll is running for re-election to the Town Board after being elected to a four-year term in 2013. A retired teacher, Cynthia has a combined 32 years of teaching experience at various levels, ranging from middle school to college freshman. John Hagreen is also running for re-election to the Town Board after being elected to a two-year term in 2015. Having been actively involved in many aspects of the Mendon community, John joined the Town Board following his retirement from Pitney Bowes where he worked for 32 years.
Jim Merzke has served as Mendon Town Clerk since 1996, and worked in the Town Clerk’s Office since 1992. A lifelong resident of the Town of Mendon, Jim is an HF-L graduate, Past Commander of American Legion Falls Post #664 and Past-President of the Monroe County Town Clerks, Tax Receivers and Collectors Association.
Highway Superintendent Bud Smith has been a member of the Town of Mendon Highway Department for over 32 years. Bud is a HF-L graduate and lifelong resident of the Town of Mendon. He also served as President of the Monroe County Highway Superintendent’s Association for the last six years.
Judge Cara Briggs is seeking her third full term as a Mendon Town Justice. After graduating from Albany Law School, she worked as a prosecutor in the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office. She is currently employed as Associate Counsel to the Rochester City School District.
