Sean Sullivan is seen here ordering ice cream for his family during The Ice Scoop’s “soft open” last Thursday evening. To the delight of many in the Hamlet of Mendon, The Ice Scoop represents the return and continuation of the long tradition of an ice cream stand in the Hamlet. Sentinel Photo

With a soft opening held on July 1 and a grand opening event on July 4, the Ice Scoop in Mendon got off to a great start due to the hot weather.

Continuing the tradition established in 2001, there is a new owner of the walk up/take out ice cream stand at Mendon Village Commons, 1350 Pittsford Mendon Road. Now called The Ice Scoop, Kelly Schiefen has decided to try her hand at serving up some cool treats. She will feature 15 flavors of “Giffords” hard ice cream, 3 flavors of soft serve as well as the traditional sundaes, banna splits, milkshakes, floats and more.

The Ice Scoop is open Tuesday through Sunday, 11:30 to 9pm. Kelly’s products are sure to satisfy the anticipation of those who have been shut in during the pandemic. After a complete remodeling of the facility and a long awaited Board of Health inspection, it is full speed ahead for Kelly!

She is looking forward to the remainder of the season and learning what the locals in and around the Hamlet of Mendon would like to tempt their tastebuds.
