This year’s Youth Trophy Cup Runs took place on Sunday, October 6, with multiple repeat winners from last year and a new breakout family of runners. Across the eight race categories, four winners were victorious for a second year in a row: Declan Byler (6-year-old race), Chase Byler (8-year-old race), Elizabeth Geary (9 and 10-year-old girl’s race) and Evan Mason (11 and 12-year-old boy’s race).

The Lada family made an unforgettable debut at this year’s event, winning three separate races. Augustyn Lada won the run for 7-year-olds, Dominik Lada won the 9 & 10 boys run, and Kaja “Kat” Lada won the run for 11 & 12 girls. The youngest Lada family member, Sebastian, finished fourth in the race for 5-year-olds with a very impressive time of 2:27.

Other performance highlights from the day included Emmalyn Parmelee, proving herself the fastest five-year-old in town. She was victorious in the youngest age group (5-year-olds) in a speedy two minutes flat. In the most stirring race of the day, the 6-year-old race, an astonishing ten of seventeen runners broke the challenging two-minute mark. At the front of that run, spectators were treated to a duel to the finish between Declan Byler and Silas Auyer. Declan broke the tape two hundredths of a second in front, triumphant in 1:39.5. Silus ran a very close 1:39.7.

Many runners who returned this year saw great personal improvement. In winning the 6-year-old race, Declan Byler dropped his time from the previous year by an impressive 15.7 seconds, from 1:55.2 down to 1:39.5. Harrison Rahmlow—also in the 6-year-old category—beat his previous time by 14 seconds, and Branden Ferrell improved by 10 seconds. Chase Byler was faster this year by 2.2 seconds in winning the run for 8-year-olds. Evan Mason just edged his prior year coming in four-tenths of a second faster, winning the run for 11 & 12 boys.

The Youth Trophy Cup Runs—completing its 27th year—is a festival of eight cross-country races for HF-L school district children, ages five to twelve. The courses cover paths and grass fields on school grounds. Five and six-year-old participants run a course just over a quarter mile in length. Seven and eight-year-olds run a roughly half-mile course, while ages nine and up compete over a distance of .86 miles. Boys and girls run together in the five-year-old through eight-year-old races while there are separate races for the boys and the girls in the 9 & 10 and 11 & 12-year-old age groups. Conditions were ideal this year—with mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the mid 70’s — continuing the wonderful Fall weather we’ve enjoyed this year.

This HF-L Community Programs event is helped immensely by long-time sponsors Honeoye Falls Marketplace, Jessica Chevrolet, M&T Bank’s Honeoye Falls branch and Salvatore’s Pizzeria. Event proceeds each year are contributed to the Manor School to purchase needed equipment for physical education. HF-L cross country coach, Nolan Hoh and his teams of runners have been invaluable volunteers at this and prior year’s Youth Trophy Cup Runs.
