Chris Carosa, Publisher of the Mendon-Honeoye Falls-Lima Sentinel, announced the winners of the 2018 Readers’ Choice Awards at the annual Honeoye Falls/Mendon Rotary Casino on Friday evening, February 9, 2018, at the Mendon Golf Club. Roughly 100 people attended the event to dance, play, and have a great time. New this year was the formal unveiling of the winners of the Sentinel’s inaugural Readers’ Choice Awards.
Any “verified” business was eligible. Businesses were verified by the Sentinel either through its list of advertisers or by completing the verification survey emailed to them directly. The survey was also posted on the Sentinel Facebook page and on the Sentinel Twitter feed. The survey was available beginning in October of 2017. Any business that was verified as of December 31, 2017 became eligible for nomination in one of the twenty-two categories in the annual Readers’ Choice Awards.
While some verified business opted not to participate this year, 100 different businesses were represented in the Readers’ Choice Awards. Businesses that missed the deadline for participation in this year’s event can still complete the verification survey to be included in next year’s event.
The three hundred readers that voted in the 2018 Readers’ Choice Awards made this the most popular on-line event to date for the Sentinel. Aside for the four main geographic categories, there were 18 industry specific categories. There had to be at least three businesses nominated in a category for that category to be eligible. When less than three businesses were nominated in a category, they were placed in the nearest similar category.
