In anticipation of the Town of Rush Bicentennial celebration in 2018, the town’s Bicentennial Committee has begun working on planning this once in a lifetime celebration. Chaired by Susan Mee, Rush Town Historian, the committee is planning a variety of events and activities to take place throughout 2018.
Work on a commemorative bicentennial book is well underway with Susan Swanton and Susan Mee coordinating the project. Jean Stephens is working on the book layout and design.
Invitations were sent to not for profit churches, schools and community groups located in the Town of Rush to submit a short history with pictures for the book. Shortly an advertisement campaign will be launched to help fund the book publication and other bicentennial events. Contributions from individuals are also sought.
The Committee is looking for loans or donations of old pictures of the town. Please contact Sue Mee regarding photographs you might have of interest to the book committee or for our general history collection. If you wish to drop off any materials at the Rush Town Hall, please leave with Pamela Bucci or Shivaun Featherman, in the Town Clerk’s Office if Sue is not available. Please be sure your materials are marked with your name and contact information. Pam and Shivaun will make sure the materials are given to Sue.
Much local history is still visible in the town and there are many long time and multi-generation Rush residents with stories and pictures to share. Now is the time to pull out old pictures and stories for possible inclusion in the book! Publication of the book is planned for March 2018, but all content is needed before October 1, 2017.
This is the biggest celebration the Town of Rush has held since it’s Sesquicentennial in 1968 and the 175th anniversary in 1993. It’s time to begin thinking about growing your sideburns or finding a Regency era costume to wear! More details will follow as plans develop. Please check the Rush Town Newsletter 9 http://www.townofrush.com/news-notices/newsletters) and the Rush Bicentennial website (https://rushhistorian.com/ )for additional information. 2018 will be a memorable year for Rush!
