Honeoye Falls-Lima Middle School students were recognized for their talent in music in the last couple of months of this school year.
The Middle School’s seventh and eighth grade chorus and the Middle School Treble Choir competed at the Darien Lake Music Festival on June 10. HF-L’s choruses won first place in every category of their competition.
The seventh and eighth grade chorus earned first place in the Junior High Chorus Category and earned an “Outstanding with Distinction” score.
The Middle School Treble Choir captured first place in the Women’s Chorus Category, receiving an “Outstanding with Distinction” score. The Treble Choir also received the Grand Judges Award given to the highest scoring chorus of the competition.
Individuals earning honors were Emily Repass for Outstanding Soloist and Dylan Nells for Outstanding Accompanist.
“We also had 11 chorus students participate in the in-house solo festival here at the Middle School on May 31,” Middle School Chorus Teacher Barbara Salter said.
In April, the Middle School Jazz Band took a trip to Nazareth College to play in the College’s Jazz Band concert. HF-L’s Middle School Jazz Band performed two pieces by themselves and then listened to both of Nazareth College’s Jazz Ensembles. For the final song of the concert, “Sunnyside”, the HF-L Middle School Jazz Band members joined the two Nazareth ensembles onstage.
“The kids were also able to work with Nazareth’s Director of Jazz, Brad Batz, leading up to the concert itself,” said Middle School 6th grade Band Director and Middle School Jazz Band Director Connor Groene.
