The Rush Senior Citizens Club celebrated its 60th anniversary of community camaraderie with a reception at the Wildwood Country Club on Thursday, October 9, 2025. In an impressive show of support, over 70 of the club’s 100 members were in attendance! The event was organized by members Linda Price and Bev Ramsey.
The date was December 2, 1965 when the Rush Senior Citizens Club had its first meeting. At that initial assemblage, 14 charter members were in attendance.
The special guest of this most recent meeting was Jean Banker (pictured here). Jean attended at the age of 100 years, four months, accompanied by her daughter, Nancy Banker.
One member, Linda Price said, “It was important to have a celebration of the 60th anniversary because we have lost a lot of members and don’t know what other members we may lose.”
Her sentiments were echoed by member Carol Coombe, who has been a member of the club for 14 years, since the passing of her husband. She enjoys the people and cherishes the lunches as a chance to see people she might never see again. Carol added, “It has been such a joy to be with all of the members. It’s been great! Community is important and the older you get the more important it becomes.”
The Rush Senior Citizens Club meets the second Thursday of every month for lunch at the Rush Fire Hall. The lunches are either bring-a-dish-to-pass or catered. There is usually a presenter after lunch. In the past year the club has presentations on fall prevention, stroke awareness, Monroe County Board of Elections, Town of Rush Historian Sue Mee, and local nature photographer Judy Allen Foster. The November meeting, 11/13/25, will be a catered Thanksgiving lunch and the speaker will be Kirsten Flass from the Town of Rush Library.
Dues are $10 per year. Contact Pat Stephens (585-533-2340) at Rush Recreation and Parks for more information.
