Thanks to the efforts of some very talented and creative community members, a new, literary-themed quilt now hangs in the Children’s Area of the Mendon Public Library. The quilt was a gift to the library to honor the work of retired Library Director, Laurie Guenther.

Dr. Seuss book covers embellish the front panel of this colorful quilt while renderings of past Summer Reading Program artwork adorn the back panel of this lovely tribute. A special inscription on the quilt reads, “This quilt, made in 2021, commemorates the more than 25-year career of Laurie Guenther as Director of the Mendon Public Library.”

Laurie Guenther served as Library Director of the Mendon Public Library since 1998  and worked for several years before that at the library on 15 Monroe St.  She led the library through lots of change, including the vision, design, funding,  construction, and establishment of the beautiful new and fully accessible facility at 22 N. Main St.

A cornerstone of the Mendon community since 1936, Mendon Public Library offers patrons access to over 1 million items in the Monroe County Library System. Non-print materials include audio books in multiple formats, including CDs and mp3s, and free downloadable books and audio books.
