In celebration of Earth Day and Arbor Day, the Village of Honeoye Falls Conservation Board hosted its second annual Environmental Fair on April 27th from 12:00-3:00 p.m. It was scheduled to be held at Harry Allen Park, however the inclement weather forced them to seek an indoor location at the last minute. The Honeoye Falls Volunteer Fire Department came to the rescue, and moved their trucks outside to provide space inside their truck bay.
This family friendly event showcased environmental efforts in our own community as well as in the greater Rochester area. Activities included sapling giveaways, live music courtesy of local singer/songwriter Joan Burch, presentations, and games for kids provided by the HF-L Green Team and Eco Geeks. The live hawk and falcon display courtesy of the Braddock Bay Raptor Research Organization was a huge hit. Other exhibitors included the Village Community Gardeners, the Mendon Garden Club, the Mendon Conservation Board, the Genesee River Watch, Manor School Green Kids, Manor Bee Club, local Boy & Girl Scout troops, and other environmentally conscious businesses such as A.C.E.S. Energy (Alternative Carbon Energy Solutions) and Matthew
Bowers from Rochester Passive House Consulting, a company committed to building and adapting energy efficient housing.
A community devoted to making small environmental impacts can foster great change. The Conservation Board hopes you can join them next year!
