Beautiful weather for the parade, a resounding victory by the football team, a nice ceremony to induct three new members into the Alumni Hall of Fame and a tie in the boys soccer game added up to a successful conclusion to the 50th annual Fall Weekend for Honeoye Falls-Lima School District this past Saturday.
The Fall Weekend parade theme was “Holidays”.
The Mendon Child Care Float was Halloween/Fall and won the Overall Award in the Pre-K to Middle School category. The Lima Primary Float used Valentine’s Day as its theme and was the Spirit Winner. Manor School’s Float featured New Year’s Day Around the World and won the Creativity Award. The Middle School’s Float represented St. Patrick’s Day and won the Workmanship Award.
In the High School category, the Freshman Float was New Year’s Day and received third place. Ailey Chambers and JJ Bills were the Freshman Queen and King. The Sophomore Float showcased Halloween and won second place. There was no sophomore King and Queen. The Junior Float featured Christmas and won first place. Ethan Cole and MacKenna Weaver were the Junior King and Queen. The Senior Float represented Fourth of July and was the Grand Prize winner. Addison Kailbourne and Miles Stover were the Senior Queen and King. Mollie Finn and Jack Kailbourne were the Overall Queen and King.
Following the football team’s victory, the action shifted to the high school cafeteria where three new members were welcomed into the HF-L Alumni Hall of Fame. The high school Select Chorus sang a song about community and the general accomplishments of those people already enshrined in the Hall of Fame called “Draw the Circle Wide”. Muffy Meisenzahl then presented the first inductee Amo T. Kreiger (Honeoye Falls High School Class of 1917) who was the town of Mendon’s first historian. With no family to represent her (she passed away in 1969), HF-M Historical Society President Drew Saur represented her. The Select Choir sang “My Way” in honor of her accomplishments. John Recktenwald presented the second inductee, Lima High School Class of 1959’s Tom Reynolds. In recognition of his military service and his service in the community, the Select Choir sang “America The Beautiful”. John Moffitt presented the final inductee Randy Hurley (HF-L Class of 1985). In a nod to his achievements in the field of radio broadcasting, the Select Choir sang “Radio” from the 2009 musical “Memphis”.
