Many area residents took in the artwork created by the students, kindergarten through high school seniors, which were displayed during Cougar Creations at Honeoye Falls-Lima last month.

Cougar Creations, now in its 40th year, was a celebration of the creative spirit and talent in all of the students at HF-L and the artwork of the students was set up in the “A” wing gymnasium at the high school. It took place over three days during the middle of May. Originally conceived as celebrating not just artwork but also the musical talent of HF-L students and taking place at the Middle School, it has evolved over the past few years to making the artwork the focal point of the event, which is much like Fine Arts Festivals at other area schools.

Artwork in all formats was displayed and included drawing and painting, clay, woven items and photography.

The artwork of Lima Primary students was organized around certain themes, for example first-grade students’ work featured winterscapes. Manor School third-grade, fourth-grade and fifth-grade artwork was also organized around certain themes/topics including patterned/Zentangle-style pumpkins, fluorescent chalk moons with tree silhouettes, winter scenes/snow globes inspired by the work of illustrator and graphic designer Jen Aryani, animal portraits inspired by the work of graphic designer, illustrator and tattoo artist Indi Maverik or symmetrical butterflies painted by folding the paper and using a monoprinting technique. Much of the artwork by Middle School students featured landscapes or animals. High School artwork included self-portraits, landscapes, animals, still-life, photography and objects made of clay. Some high school students had just one or two pieces of art while others had entire boards full of several different works of art or portions of tables featuring several pieces.
