A familiar face will be the Republican candidate for the New York State Assembly 133rd District seat come November in the wake of the death of former Assemblyman Bill Nojay two weeks ago.
Former state assemblyman Joe Errigo, from Livingston County, was chosen by the three county chairmen whose counties comprise the district, during a meeting last Wednesday. Monroe County Chairman Bill Reilich, Livingston County Chairman Lowell Conrad and Steuben County Chairman Rusty Smith tapped Errigo as the candidate after Nojay defeated Honeoye Falls Mayor Rick Milne in the primary on Tuesday night with 2,387 votes to Milne’s 1,660 votes.
There was originally a list of eight candidates for the chairmen to consider. Milne took himself out of consideration in a letter on Wednesday afternoon. He did state that Errigo is a good choice after the selection was made.
The Conservative Party chose Rev. Jason McGuire as its candidate to replace Nojay on their ballot. The Reform and Independence Parties, whose endorsement Nojay had also secured, had not weighed in with who they will support.
Errigo previously served in the Assembly from 2000-2010.
