The Honeoye Falls-Lima Central School District will hold a second forum on the Urban-Suburban program on Thursday, September 21 from 7-9 p.m. in the HF-L Middle School Cafeteria on Quaker Meeting House Road.

District officials, members of the community and staff met back in June for an informational conversation and public forum about the program as the district explores possible participation in it. The Urban-Suburban Program is a 50-year old program designed to increase diversity experiences for students. Many Monroe County suburban schools participate in this program. Often, schools find the program enriches education in their schools, helps them continue to offer advanced and elective courses, and creates additional revenue to sustain their district.

The June forum featured an overview of the program and a summary of how it operates in nearby districts, including a review of the application and selection process used to admit students. Following the whole group presentation, attendees broke into smaller groups to discuss how this program might affect the district from the perspective of students, teachers and community members. Discussions with teachers and students are also ongoing throughout this month with the purpose of the meetings to gather information and share ideas.

All members of the community, students, staff, and faculty are invited to the Community Forum. It is the district’s goal to provide a report to the Board of Education sometime this autumn. Links to a brief video and a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document on hflcsd.org provide an overview of the program and answer many of the questions the district has received thus far.
