Celebrating Flag Day, the second-grade children at Manor School performed an annual patriotic show with songs and showed off their knowledge about the United States on Thursday, June 12.

Starting off the show, two students enter onstage looking for the patriotic production and are informed by another student dressed as George Washington that they are in the show. The student dressed as George Washington is the narrator of the show, introducing each segment, and the two students do not realize it is Washington until the end. Some of the students presenting different facts about the nation are dressed as Martin Luther King Jr., Betsy Ross, Susan B. Anthony, Sacajawea, Abe Lincoln and Thomas Jefferson and the Statue of Liberty. Other students wear military hats for the different branches of the armed forces or were dressed as Yankee Doodle Dandy or the Bald Eagle, America’s symbol.

All the classes performed the opening song “We Love the USA”. Students in Mrs. Fleming/Ms. Swift’s class sang “The United States”. The students in Mrs. Leonard and Mrs. Lynah’s class performed “The Star-Spangled Banner”. After all the students recited the Pledge of Allegiance and sang “My Country ‘Tis of Thee”, students in Mrs. Filiatrault and Ms. Vadala’s class performed “America, America”. Students in Mrs. Graney’s class sang “Yankee Doodle”.

All the second-graders participated in singing “Thank You Soldiers” during a slideshow featuring photos of family members of either students or staff who have either served in or are currently serving in one of the branches of the military (Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard) and all the students also were involved in “Taps Prologue” with quotes. Miss Balseca’s class sang “America the Beautiful”. Mrs. Erickson’s class performed “Famous Americans”. The second-graders closed the show with all of them singing “Proud to be an American”.
